Breastfeeding & Lactation Support

Breastfeeding has many benefits for both babies and moms

Even if you can only breastfeed a short time, your baby’s immune system will benefit.

Recent research has reaffirmed the health benefits of breastfeeding for both you and your newborn.  At Aurora BayCare, we strongly encourage and support breastfeeding. Our lactation specialists can help you manage a variety of aspects of breastfeeding including:

  • Safety of taking medications during breastfeeding
  • Managing breastfeeding when you return to work
  • Nursing multiples
  • Stimulating lactation for an adopted infant
  • Increasing milk supply
  • Other breastfeeding difficulties

For many mothers, breastfeeding is easy and enjoyable right from the start. But other new moms may experience challenges. These challenges can usually be overcome with a little coaching and professional support. Breastfeeding is natural, but it doesn’t always come easily for every mother and baby!

For whatever your breastfeeding goals may be, our internal board certified lactation consultants will be there to help you throughout your breastfeeding journey.

On-Site & Online Classes

Aurora BayCare offers Breastfeeding Basics classes, which are recommended during the 6th or 7th month of pregnancy for women and their partners who are planning to breastfeed, or who may yet be undecided.  One of our lactation specialists facilitates the class.
(New and expectant parents may also be interested in our other childbirth and parenting classes.)

Our lactation team is part of your birthing team. They collaborate with the nursing staff and physicians to ensure you have all the support you need to develop this healthy, rewarding practice for you and your baby.
