Caring for a child with special needs requires a team effort
We help children develop the skills they need to function at home and in the community. Our developmental therapists have special training in pediatric rehabilitation. This team has a caring attitude and a special desire to work with kids and help them achieve their highest level of function possible.

Aurora BayCare offers a full range of pediatric therapy services for infants, children and teens who have an injury, developmental condition, or other special needs. Our services include physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy and audiology.
We also offer developmental therapy in the NICU for premature babies and sick newborns.
Physical therapists help children improve their ability to move. Physical therapists address the following skills and treatment areas:
- Gross motor development, such as standing, rolling, sitting
- Functional mobility / gait training
- Walking, running
- Special equipment, such as orthotics and prosthetics
Occupational therapists focus on helping children become as independent as they can be in all areas of their lives. Occupational therapists address the following skills and treatment areas:
- Fine motor development
- Posture control
- Activities of daily living
- Eye-hand coordination
- Sensory response
- Social interactions
- Adaptive equipment
- Environmental modifications (changing physical barriers)
Speech therapists help children who have problems with communication, learning, and feeding or swallowing. Speech therapists address the following skills and treatment areas:
- Hearing loss and adaptive communication
- Cognition development
- Language disorders
- Fluency disorders
Your child’s pediatric therapy program is designed specifically for them using fun and educational activities. This program may include working one-on-one with a therapist, at-home therapy, adaptive equipment, or environmental modifications. Our therapists can also assist with educating family members, other caregivers, and your child’s teachers.
Families play a critical role in pediatric therapy. We plan exercise programs through age appropriate play/activities and will provide you with ideas for incorporating therapy into your daily routine.
Our family-centered approach includes caregiver education and referrals to other medical specialties and community resources, as appropriate.
