Custom Foot Orthotics

Are you suffering from pain in your feet, legs, or back?

Custom foot orthotics may be the answer. Orthotics are shoe inserts designed to control the foot and lower extremity alignment. Orthotics can also provide cushioning to increase shock absorption and pressure relief for the bony parts of your foot or sensitive areas. By controlling the foot, we can often relieve pain in your feet, knees, hips or lower back.

Your orthotics consultation will include:

  • Musculoskeletal assessment
  • Review of your activity level and pain
  • Range of motion study for your lower extremities
  • Gait analysis
  • Education on proper footwear and shoe size

When appropriate, we may also conduct a video gait analysis to further examine your alignment when walking and/or running.

Patients referred for custom foot orthotics will receive a thorough biomechanical assessment by a licensed physical therapist to determine the type of orthotic device most appropriate for them. In addition, the clinician may provide appropriate exercise instruction to address any muscle imbalances in flexibility and strength.

We look at your feet while you’re sitting, standing and laying down. But we do more than just examine your foot structure.  We look at how your feet affect your legs and your hips to understand how your feet relate to your overall mobility and function.

Orthotics for Athletes

When prescribing custom orthotics we take your activity level into consideration.  A 300-lb. lineman and a 100-lb ballet dancer may have the same foot type, but they’ll need different support materials in their orthotic.

We can offer custom orthotics designed for every kind of activity, from work shoes to sport shoes. We can even provide orthotics for gymnasts who don’t wear shoes at all!
