We are a Level II Trauma Center, the highest certification in the region. This means we can handle any type of emergency at any time of day.
Over 30,000 patients visit our Emergency Department every year for all types of problems, ranging fro work and sport injuries to strokes, heart attacks, and serious traumatic accidents.
The Aurora BayCare Emergency Department is a critical entry point for specialized care. We offer immediate access to specialists in cardiac care, orthopedics, plastic surgery, neurosurgery, obstetrics, sepsis care, and more.
First Emergency Center of Excellence in the U.S.
Aurora BayCare Medical Center is the first U.S. hospital to be verified as an Emergency Center of Excellence by EmEx, an organization that specializes in emergency department benchmarks.

Emergency and Trauma Services
Aurora BayCare is a regional leader in comprehensive ER and trauma care. Our Emergency Department offers the following:
- The most experienced emergency physicians in the area, board-certified/residency trained in emergency medicine
- Surgeons trained in advanced trauma life support
- Level II Trauma certification by the American College of Surgeons
- 24/7 on call coverage by the region’s only all-board certified team of neurosurgeons
- Two state-of-the-art trauma suites, one dedicated to pediatric resuscitation and care
- Green Bay’s only laborist program, with obstetric physicians on-site 24/7
- Serviced by Green Bay’s only toxicology expert for poisoning and overdose
Emergency Stroke Program
Time is brain. Stroke team experts are available 24/7 to provide immediate treatment for all strokes. We have the region’s largest neurointervention team, providing life-saving, around-the-clock stroke care not available at other regional hospitals.
Aurora BayCare is one of four Comprehensive Stroke Centers in Wisconsin. We provide telestroke consultations to community hospitals and accept emergency patient transfers from the area's surrounding Primary Stroke Centers.
Heart Attack, STEMI Program
When you’re having a heart attack, minutes matter. Aurora BayCare’s STEMI program leads the region in door-to-balloon time; our fastest being 13 minutes from the time a patient enters our ER to when we’ve opened their blocked arteries.
The Emergency Department at Aurora BayCare was designed with input from emergency medical experts and regional rescue services. With four climate controlled garage bays, it is largest and most efficient in the region.
Aurora BayCare Medical Center's heliport, located directly adjacent to the emergency department, accepts critically ill and injured patients by helicopter 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. We’ve partnered with area EMS agencies to ensure we are notified while you are on route to the Emergency Department. This allows us to be prepared and provide the fastest treatment possible.
Emergency Services Outreach
