Diagnosing Neurologic Cancer
When it comes to cancer of the brain and nervous system, accurate diagnosis is essential
Our team includes fellowship trained neuroradiologists equipped with the latest, most accurate neuro-imaging tools available.
- Neuro-imaging: We use the most advanced magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and perfusion and diffusion MRI to collect images of the brain and spinal cord. We also use computerized tomography (CT) scans, positron emission tomography (PET) scans, and single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) scans.
- Image-Guided Frameless Biopsy: A needle biopsy can help diagnose a brain tumor and guide further care. Previously, this procedure required the patient’s head to be held inside a rigid frame that was attached to the skull with screws. Aurora BayCare has the technology to provide “frameless” guided-image brain biopsies that are more comfortable for the patient but provide the same accuracy as the rigid frame.
- Neuropsychology: Our neuropsychologist helps evaluate whether your cancer or cancer treatment has caused any concerns with your cognitive function or psychological status. When indicated, additional treatment and/or rehabilitation plans are coordinated accordingly.
