Aurora BayCare Offers Low Fluoroscopy Ablation Procedures, Only Hospital in Green Bay Area
Aurora BayCare Medical Center is a Destination for Atrial Fibrillation Specialized Care
Green Bay, Wis. – Aurora BayCare Medical Center, a nationally recognized leader in improved and quality health care, is offering people with atrial fibrillation (AFib) a low-dose fluoroscopy for cardiac ablation using ultrasound and non-radiation 3D mapping systems. Aurora BayCare is proud to be the only hospital in the Green Bay area to offer this specialized treatment to patients and is the first hospital in Wisconsin to receive the American Heart Association's Atrial Fibrillation Gold Quality Achievement Award.
Radiation exposure is a major concern with catheter ablation treatment for AFib. This is largely due to its use of radiofrequency energy to destroy areas of heart tissue that is causing rapid or irregular heartbeats. Over time, this radiation can damage cells within the body and can lead to other major health problems. Medium levels of radiation can cause sickness, headaches, vomiting and fevers. This new approach provides high resolution imaging with low amounts of radiation exposure to treat heart arrhythmias.
“Aurora BayCare is continuously evaluating outcomes and setting new benchmarks for the AFib specialty in order to make treatments safer for patients,” said Medical Director of Cardiac Electrophysiology Dr. Vinay Mehta. “Low fluoroscopy ablation procedures are becoming the standard in hospitals around the country.”
