Aurora BayCare Medical Center Received Comprehensive Stroke Center Accreditation
The hospital is the first to obtain the most advanced certification in the region
Green Bay, Wis. – Aurora BayCare Medical Center is the first and only certified Comprehensive Stroke Center in Northeast Wisconsin and Upper Michigan. The hospital with the area’s largest team of neurointervention specialists have met rigorous requirements to achieve the Comprehensive Stroke Center certification.
“This Comprehensive Stroke Center certification means patients in Northeast Wisconsin and Upper Michigan now have access to the highest standard in stroke expertise,” said Dr.Ziad Darkhabani, interventional neurologist at Aurora BayCare. “Our expert care team and state-of-the-art resources ensure that we have the specific ability to treat the most complex stroke cases.”
Certification is a voluntary process and hospital systems pursuing this certification must participate in an evaluation by expert surveyors maintain accreditation with DNV GL Healthcare or another accreditation. The high standards set forth by the Comprehensive Stroke Center certification indicate that Aurora BayCare is better prepared to assist all stroke patients.
“We are committed to offering our patients access to 24/7 emergent stroke and aneurysm care,” said Susan Zimmermann, MSN, CNRN, SCRN, director of nursing at the NeuroCare Brain and Spine Center at Aurora BayCare, “Recently we moved our biplane procedure room closer to the emergency department, lessening the time it takes for patients to get access to immediate care.”
In addition, Aurora BayCare furthers its commitment to advanced neurology and stroke services by offering patients access to clinical trials and conducting research in the field. Even surrounding communities have access to Aurora BayCare’s acute stroke team, through their telestroke program. Through teleneurology, patients can have a consultation with an acute stroke specialist and receive a treatment recommendation sooner.
