Sports Medicine & Performance Enhancement
Aurora BayCare Medical Center's Medical Fitness Program is a
collaborative effort between the sports medicine and rehabilitation
departments. From wellness and fitness to disease prevention and management,
our specialists will help you identify goals and establish an exercise and
education program resulting in a healthier lifestyle.
- Wellness 101 is offered year round as an
introduction to basic strength training and exercise. This four-week
class is designed to provide a general understanding of wellness and
fitness. It will focus on educating participants on proper posture,
conditioning and nutrition, providing a higher comfort level when
exercising or when participating in group classes.
-
Bridge program is an opportunity for sport medicine
rehabilitation patients to continue their exercise program in a
supervised setting once discharged from formal therapy.
-
Pregnancy and fitness program
helps women stay fit
and healthy for two by addressing the unique exercise needs during
pregnancy. This program includes three one-on-one sessions with a
physical therapist
and focuses on cardiovascular, stretching, strengthening and core
stability. This program includes aquatic and yoga classes as part of the
overall program.
- Breast cancer aquatics program is designed for
breast cancer survivors at any point of their recovery. It focuses on
cardiovascular, range of motion, stretching and posture in our
therapeutic pool.
- Therapeutic water works is a warm-water class for
those who want to get back to normal activity and/or remain active, but
have aches and pains that often make it uncomfortable to do more
traditional exercise. Movement will focus on the thorough warm up of all
joints and muscles, working through full range of motion and gentle
strength work. Those with arthritis, mild to moderate joint or muscle
pain, or in need of lower-impact exercise will benefit from this class.
-
Therapeutic yoga is designed to improve the health
and function of the spine and hips. By using proven stretching
techniques, proper breathing and individual focus, results are seen in
improved flexibility, strength and a reduction in back pain. Several
pose variations will be used as needed to accommodate all levels of
participants.
- Therapeutic core connection focuses on injury
prevention, optimal spinal alignment and low-back support. Emphasis will
be on proper sequencing and engagement for the core in supported
positions with progressions to less supported positions. Flexibility of
the hips and spine will also be integrated to provide a well-balanced
program to enhance back and spine health.
- Arthritis self-help course is an educational
program designed to help participants take an active role in managing
their arthritis. Participants in this program meet once a week for six
weeks.
- Fall prevention program is an educational program
(called Stepping On) to help reduce the risk of falls, which often
result in injury. This program is a seven-week educational series.
