Rehabilitation & Other TherapiesAromatherapyClinical aromatherapy is the skilled use of pure essential oils for therapeutic purposes. This holistic and natural approach to health care is used in conjunction with traditional medicine by either inhaling the aroma or by utilizing it during massage therapy sessions. At the most basic level, aromatherapy works by affecting our sense of smell. The essential oils evaporate and are first sensed through the nose, as part of the olfactory system, which in turn stimulates the brain. By using skin applications such as M-technique (soft touch relaxation technique), massage or baths, the essential oils enter the blood stream. The effects of the skin application may last up to three days. The skilled use of essential oils can produce a calming effect, balance and restore body functions and can rejuvenate body, mind and spirit. Comprehensive care providedAurora BayCare Medical Center offers both comfort measures and aromatherapy private consultations to inpatients and outpatients. Trained staff members at Aurora Bay Care perform complimentary comfort measures for anxiety, nausea, pain and insomnia while you are receiving services at Aurora BayCare Medical Center. Aromatherapy can also be used during soft touch relaxation techniques or massage. A Certified Clinical Practitioner (CCAP) at Aurora BayCare Medical Center can provide this private treatment for inpatient and outpatient services. The CCAP assesses the patient's physical and emotional needs, as well as their aroma and touch preferences, to develop an individualized aromatherapy treatment. The patient's physician may be contacted if there are any specific needs or concerns. Clinical aromatherapy can be an excellent part of healing and the journey toward wholeness.
