NeuroCare Brain & Spine Center™ - Common Spinal Conditions

Myelopathy

Myelopathy is a condition that affects the spinal cord itself. It is due to compression of the spinal cord and is often a result of a narrowing of the spinal canal caused by arthritic changes in the spine. It can also be caused by a disc herniation in the cervical spine (neck) or thoracic spine (midback).

Early symptoms of myelopathy include difficulty walking due to generalized weakness or problems with balance and coordination. As the condition progresses, some patients experience difficulty with bowel or bladder control.
