Visits to the emergency room are never expected, but over one third of the
residents in Green Bay and its surrounding communities required emergency
medical treatment in the past year. And for families with children, that number
rose well above 50%.
With so many possible emergencies around us (sudden illnesses, allergic
reactions, sports injuries, heart attacks, brain injuries, etc.) it’s comforting
to know you have a trauma center like Aurora BayCare Medical Center in your own
backyard.
Emergency and trauma care at Aurora BayCare
Aurora BayCare Medical Center is committed to bringing you comprehensive
emergency and trauma care in a warm, caring environment. We combine the latest
medical breakthroughs with thoughtful advances in care – and center them around
you.
Our Emergency and trauma department is staffed by over a dozen
board-certified, residency-trained emergency medicine physicians – including a
certified toxicologist and specialists in critical care medicine. For over 30
years, our physicians have lived and worked in the Green Bay area. These
dedicated physicians set the standard for sophisticated, comprehensive, personal
care and they will treat your family like their own.
All of our patients are seen by a board-certified emergency medicine
physician who is backed by all the technology and services of Aurora BayCare
Medical Center. They provide complete care for everything from minor illnesses
and accidents to major, life-threatening conditions and have immediate access to
highly accomplished trauma surgeons, neurosurgeons and cardiologists. In fact,
all the inpatient or outpatient care you need is right here.

Special care for children
Emergencies are frightening for everyone …
but especially for children. Our doctors and nurses have families of their own
and know how to comfort your child in a traumatic situation. We take time to
listen to each child and parent, and we make sure to keep visitors informed
throughout the treatment process.
To further accommodate families with small children, we’ve designated special
pediatric rooms and a play area within our Emergency Department to make your
visit as comfortable as possible.
Note to parents: Accidents and illnesses can happen anytime. To ensure that
your child receives necessary medical treatment while in the care of a
babysitter or guardian, we recommend that you complete a “Consent for Treatment
of a Minor” form for each child and have it kept on record at Aurora BayCare
Medical Center. This will allow our physicians to administer medical care
promptly if you cannot be reached.
Special care for heart and brain attack patients
Oftentimes, emergency departments are the first to treat heart and brain
attack victims. When patients come to Aurora BayCare Medical Center with chest
pain but have no obvious risk factors for a heart attack (obesity, history of
smoking or heart disease), we closely monitor them in our Chest Pain Center to
determine whether the pain is heart-related or not.
If a patient is admitted with the early signs of a brain attack, our team
immediately determines if thrombolytic therapy (clot-dissolving drugs) should be
administered to lessen the potential side effects of a stroke (one-sided
paralysis, loss of speech, memory problems).
In either situation, the Medical Center has expert cardiologists and
neurosurgeons on staff who work with our emergency medicine teams to make the
proper diagnosis and decide on the appropriate course of action. Our goal is to
always offer you access to the expert staff you need and proven treatment
options to enhance your recovery. We are continually working to find new ways to
make life better.
The Emergency Department is located on the south side of the hospital on the
first floor and is in close proximity to diagnostic, laboratory and surgical
suites.
