Aurora BayCare Medical Center Achieves Level II Trauma Center Status
Aurora BayCare Medical Center has been verified as a Level II trauma center by the Committee on Trauma of the American College of Surgeons. This achievement recognizes Aurora BayCare's dedication to providing optimal care for injured patients and is the highest ranking a non-university-affiliated emergency center can attain. Aurora BayCare first received Level II trauma verification in 2004.
Verified trauma centers must meet the essential criteria that ensure trauma care capability and institutional performance, as outlined by the American College of Surgeons' Committee on Trauma. Key elements of a Level II trauma center include 24-hour, immediate coverage by trauma and neurosurgeons and specialists in orthopedic surgery, anesthesiology, emergency medicine, radiology, and critical care.
The Emergency department at Aurora BayCare was designed and built from the ground up to facilitate an easily accessible and weather controlled environment for the safe and rapid transfer of patients to our treatment centers. With 4 climate controlled garage bays, it is largest in the region.
Aurora BayCare Medical Center's heliport, located directly adjacent to the emergency department, accepts critically ill and injured patients by EAGLE III helicopter 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
