Interventional cardiology is a sub-specialized field of cardiology that deals specifically with catheter-based treatment of structural heart diseases.

A large number of procedures can be performed on the heart by catheterization. This most commonly involves the insertion of tiny fibers into an artery in the groin or arm up to the heart to measure pressures, take pictures of the arteries that feed the heart or to fix blockages in the arteries that feed the heart.

Our interventional cardiologists at the Heart, Lung and Vascular Center provide the most advanced and complex treatments available and perform the full breadth of interventional cardiology tests and procedures including:

  • Fixing blockages in the arteries that feed the heart that are causing chest pain or angina (usually with stents)
  • Emergency angioplasty and stenting of occluded heart arteries to stop heart attacks
  • Removal of blood clot from heart arteries
  • Removal of fluid from the pencardium or sac around the heart when it is compressing the heart

Aurora BayCare Medical Center is a leader in expanding the use of wrist catheterization for addressing blockages. Benefits to you include:

  • Shorter hospital stays
  • Fewer complications
  • More comfortable, less restrictions in mobility
  • Faster recovery
