Aurora BayCare Medical Center ranks among top 100 U.S. hospitals.

Aurora BayCare Medical Center has a new quality award to add to its accomplishments. Aurora BayCare Medical Center was recognized with the Thomson Reuters 100 Top Hospitals National Benchmark Award.

Modern Healthcare magazine released the 17th edition of Thomson Reuters 100 Top Hospitals study, a list that recognizes hospitals that have achieved excellence in patient outcomes, patient safety, patient satisfaction and efficiency.

"This award is a testament to our employees' hard work, expertise and caring in providing an outstanding patient care experience," said Daniel Meyer, chief administrative officer at Aurora BayCare Medical Center. "We are proud of this recognition since the hospital has only been in existence since 2001."

Jeff Mason, chairman of the board for Aurora BayCare Medical Center added, "The Thompson Reuters Top 100 Hospitals reviews more than half of all hospitals in the U.S. today, and specifically those hospitals above 25 inpatient beds. They look for facilities that deliver higher quality and more efficient care than other hospitals of similar size or teaching status. Thomson Reuters is a leading health care consultant that annually analyzes publicly available data to identify their top 100 facilities.

According to Thomson Reuters if all Medicare inpatients received the same level of care as those at the winning hospitals:

  • More than 98,000 additional patients would survive each year.
  • More than 197,000 patient complications would be avoided annually.
  • Expenses would decline by an aggregate $5.5 billion a year.
  • The average patient stay would decrease by half a day.
